Ruby Valley Circuit Trek Overview
The Ruby Valley Circuit Trek in Nepal’s Ganesh Himal region is a new trail. It’s named after the ruby gem found in the area, although mining here isn’t big. Nonetheless, this region has broad mineral deposits, including the valuable red stone.
The 9-day trekking trail leads you through villages inhabited by the Tamang and Gurung ethnic groups. They are famous for their unique culture and rich traditions. Additionally, these villages offer insights into ancient medicinal practices and the Bon-Po shamanic tradition. Thus, it will enrich your exploration and knowledge during the trip.
The trail to Ruby Valley offers diverse landscapes, including flatlands, terraced farms, and both gradual and steep climbs. Along the way, you’ll enjoy great views of lush green forests and towering snowy mountains. Exploring this trail vows a lively journey through great natural beauty.
During your trek, you’ll see great peaks like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Boudha Himal, Hiunchuli Dorje Lakpa, and other untouched mountains in western and central Nepal. One of the top attractions in the Ruby Valley is the Pangsang Pass. It sits at 3,842m above sea level. These peaks offer great views and add to the allure of this trek route.
You can explore remote areas in Nepal through this remote trekking trail, which is not visited often by tourists. As this trail is new, there are no lodges or guesthouses. So you’ll stay in homestays and experience Nepali rural life firsthand, sharing local food with the residents.
The Ganesh Himal Ruby Valley Circuit trek in central Nepal offers a lifetime experience with its cultural immersion and great mountain views.
Ruby Valley Trekking Route
Our Ruby Valley Circuit Trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to the beautiful village of Gatlang via Syabrubesi. It is the gateway to the famous Langtang Region. The trek on this newly opened trail starts from Gatlang and passes through rhododendron, oak, and pine forests to reach the first settlement of Ruby Valley, named Somdang. After spending a night in a local house in the beautiful Tamang Village of Somdang, the trek continues and crosses the highest point of the journey at Pangsang La Pass.
The remaining trekking days mostly involve easy descents through traditional Tamang and Gurung villages like Tipling, Shertung, Chalish, and Borang. The trek ends with a last part from Borang to Dharka Phedi, followed by a jeep transfer back to Kathmandu, concluding the Ruby Valley Circuit Trek journey.

Ruby Valley Circuit Trek Difficulty level
The Ruby Valley trek is easy yet rewarding with few challenging climbs. Trekkers must commit to walking for 4-6 hours daily, depending on the day’s destinations. Some sections involve steep climbs and descents, while others are through forests and rocky terrain. Prior trekking experience is helpful but not necessary.
Starters who are mentally and physically prepared can complete these 9 trekking days. We suggest participating in physical activities like gym workouts, swimming, short hikes, biking, etc., before leaving. If you have health issues like heart or lung problems, consult your doctor before booking the journey.
Altitude Sickness poses a vital challenge during Himalayan Trekking. However, the risk is low during the Ruby Valley Trek since you’ll mostly trek below 3000 meters. The highest point, the day you cross Pangsang La Pass, is also the only time you’ll go above 3000 meters on this trek.
The weather and temperatures also play a role in the trek’s difficulty. Prepare accordingly based on the time you choose for the trek.
Best Time to Do Ruby Valley Circuit Trek
Autumn and spring are the best seasons for trekking in the Ruby Valley. Autumn lasts from September to November, while spring lasts from March to May. Each season has its unique charms and advantages.
In spring, Ruby Valley features a pleasant climate with hills adorned in vivid colors of rhododendrons, orchids, and other blooming flora. The warm temperatures and clear days make it the best time to enjoy great mountain views.
Autumn is considered the most beautiful time in Ganesh Himal Ruby Valley. Mild temperatures, even at higher altitudes, and clear skies characterize the days. It offers optimal visibility of the grand mountains. This season attracts visitors from all over the country to experience its beauty.
During winter (December to January), the Himalayas experience a slight chill and the possibility of snowfall. However, the days remain sunny and pleasant. While rain is rare in the Ruby Valley, winter can be a peaceful time to travel along less crowded trails. It’s a must to be prepared for the cold temperatures during this season.
To sum up, trekking in the Ruby Valley is best during the autumn and spring seasons due to excellent weather conditions and great natural beauty.
Ruby Valley Circuit Trek Permits
The Ruby Valley Circuit Trek Trail is newly discovered. Trekkers don’t need special permits to trek here. However, you must obtain the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) as the trekking permit, necessary for most treks in Nepal. Additionally, you need to pay the Langtang National Park Entry Fee since the route passes through Syabrubesi and Gatlang, both within the national park.
Accommodation
Accommodations During the Ruby Valley Circuit Trek
Our Ruby Valley Circuit Trek package includes standard category places to stay in Kathmandu with breakfast included. Kathmandu offers a range of places to stay, from 5-star resorts to comfortable guesthouses, lodges, and homestays, which can be adjusted according to the traveler’s choices, budget, and availability.

Since this trail is newly discovered, there are no lodges or teahouse services like other trekking routes. Instead, they have common traditional bathrooms and use a bucket of hot water as an alternative to hot showers.

The accommodation includes breakfast. However, travelers can choose from various cuisines available in Kathmandu for lunch, dinner, and other beverages. These meals are not included in our package.
During the Ruby Valley Circuit trek, the package includes all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Since we’ll be staying in homestays, the food options are limited to locally available dishes.
